The Twelve Apostles
(Mark 3:13–19; Luke 6:12–16)

1 And calling His twelve disciples to Him, Jesus gave them authority over unclean spirits, so that they could drive them out and heal every disease and sickness.

• BEFORE Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection, and BEFORE Pentecost

  • He GAVE the disciples (Luke 9:1 - power and) authority over
    • unclean spirits so that they could
      • drive them out
    • AND
      • heal every disease and sickness.

• Again BEFORE His death, burial and resurrection as well as Pentecost, in 3 of the Gospels when Jesus sent the twelve out He commanded them to

  • preach
  • heal the sick
  • raise the dead
  • cleanse the lepers
  • drive out demons

    • BEHOLD, I HAVE GIVEN YOU AUTHORITY to tread on snakes and scorpions and over ALL the power of the enemy. NOTHING will harm you.

• Jesus’ clear teaching is that His disciples had been given power and authority of ALL demonic power

• there wasn’t anything from the demonic realm that He did not give them power and authority over.
